Pair Of Wall Lights In Polychrome Carved Wood With A Vase And Acanthus. Iron Arms. Italian Work

Each wall light presents a wall core in carved wood in high relief: a gadrooned vase on a foot, from which springs a bouquet of acanthus leaves framed by confronting croziers forming a pediment. The patinated polychromy blends terracotta, almond green and cream highlights, in the taste of Venetian lacquers. Two light arms in wrought iron with scrolls escape laterally, ending in bobèches receiving sheathed false candles.

This vocabulary of flowered vases and acanthus, treated in patinated polychrome wood, is typical of the Italian workshops of the turn of the twentieth century, which perpetuated the Baroque tradition of carved panelling of Veneto and Tuscany to adorn interiors of an ancient spirit.

Condition report: Good general condition. Old polychromy with beautiful patina, wear and scattered small losses inherent to age and to the charm of these objects. A pair full of character, charming in an entrance, a corridor or on either side of a mirror.
