Porcelain lamp from Valentine
Napoleon III period – signed Henri Fouque 1850–1864
   An elegant parlor lamp crafted from a porcelain vase produced by the famous Valentine manufactory (Haute-Garonne), dating from the mid-19th century (Napoleon III period).
This baluster-shaped model features the superb, deep “Bleu de Valentine” (cobalt blue) background, enhanced by delicate ornamentation of scrolls, foliage, and fillets painted in fine gold.
At its center, a large oval medallion in reserve features a bouquet of polychrome flowers (roses, pansies, wildflowers) entirely hand-painted. The freshness of the colors and the finesse of the details (visible in the reliefs of the painting) attest to the high level of craftsmanship in the factory’s decorative workshops.

On the underside of the base, this piece bears the official oval stamp imprinted with: “ HENRI FOUQUE / FRANCE / ST GAUDENS.”
Valentine porcelain pieces bearing this mark are particularly rare and sought-after, as the stamp was applied only under the personal supervision of Henri Fouque between 1850 and 1864.
In very good overall condition. The floral decoration retains a fresh appearance. Normal wear on the gilding of the borders, lending a beautiful period patina. Part of the gilding in the upper section of the oval framing the bouquet of flowers appears to have been touched up. No cracks or chips.
The vase has a neat hole drilled at the base on the back to allow the electrical wire to pass through, dating from when it was originally mounted as a lamp.
