Polychrome Bronze Sculpture, Orientalist Subject, Arab Man In Prayer, Signed By Antoine Bofill

An antique Orientalist bronze signed by Antoine Bofill, depicting a standing man wearing a long tunic and a turban, his hands raised near his face in a contemplative pose.
The figure is rendered with particular attention to the facial expression, the beard, the hands, and the drapery of the fabrics.

The piece features a nuanced brown patina enriched with polychrome highlights, notably a red tone visible on the top of the headdress.
This polychromy, still very much present, subtly enlivens the surface of the bronze.
The sculpture rests on a molded base integrated into the casting.
Signed “Bofill” on the plinth. Features a circular foundry stamp bearing the inscription “Bronze garanti au titre – Paris.”
This type of stamp is found on several of Bofill’s castings.

Antoine Bofill, whose full name was Antonio Bofill-Conill, was a Spanish sculptor born in Barcelona in 1875. Trained at the Barcelona Academy of Fine Arts, he later settled in Paris and exhibited both in France and abroad. In particular, he participated in the Paris Salons beginning in the 1890s and worked primarily on small-scale figures and groups intended for bronze production. His body of work includes Orientalist subjects, genre figures, nudes, animals, and historical scenes. Several sources indicate that he remained active until the mid-1920s
