A very large, framed watercolor engraving depicting the Sitio Real de Aranjuez, “As Seen from the Arca del Agua Next to the Road to Ocana,” showing the buildings and the convent as they were constructed in 1775.
In the foreground, a herd of dromedaries—"Camellada de Aranjuez"—can be seen; these were used to transport heavy loads and perform other tasks in the gardens.
The engraving bears the dedication: “Por D. Domingo de Aguirre, Captain of Infantry and Engineer of the Royal Engineering Corps—Drawn in the year 1775,” as well as the signature of the artist and engraver: “D. José Joaquín Fabregat, Academician of the Royal Academy of San Fernando, engraved in Madrid”

José Joaquín Fabregat (1748–1807) was a major Spanish engraver and draftsman of the Enlightenment period, particularly renowned for the finesse of his engravings.
In 1788, he moved to Mexico, where he spent the rest of his life training local artists and documenting Mexican life and architecture.
He collaborated with the draftsman Domingo de Aguirre on a major cartographic project commissioned by the Spanish Crown; the engravings were intended for nobles and the royal family.
