Fortuné CAR 1905 / 1970:

Fortuné Car was born in 1905 in Marseille and died in 1970.

A renowned Provençal artist, born into a family where the art of painting has been passed down from generation to generation.

In the 1930s, he took over the studio of his uncle, a theater set designer.

This spacious studio allowed him to create stage sets; he later turned to easel painting.

He quickly found his niche within the Provençal painting tradition, with his scenes of fishermen.

His bold and colorful paintings are enriched by a beautiful textural quality born of his mastery of the brush and, above all, the palette knife.

His reputation as a painter of Provence spread, particularly to Canada, where he was a member of the Royal Academy of Painting in Montreal.
