Bronze Sculpture Based On A Work By Pierre-jules Mene—“the Hound Keeper,” 20th Century
Sculpture based on a work by Pierre-Jules Mène (1810–1879) titled "The Hound Keeper." It depicts a hound handler in official hunting attire: a frock coat, a reinforced cap, a shoulder strap, and a hunting dagger for butchering game. In his right hand, he holds a bundle of branches, known as “brisées,” which, once laid down, serve as signals to communicate with other hunters.
The bronze sculpture is mounted on a marble base. The signature “P-J MENE” is present on the base.
