Pair Of Neoclassical Brass Sconces With Figural Decoration, Man And Woman With Two Lights. Fren
Each sconce features a cut and repoussé plate depicting a standing figure in finely chased costume: the man wearing a top hat, hands on his hips, and the woman in a dress with large floral motifs, in a folk-art spirit. On either side spring two sinuous brass light arms ending in candle nozzles, fitted with faux candles with a melted-wax effect.
This figurative decoration full of fancy, which evokes folk imagery and the Neoclassical taste revisited, is characteristic of the decorative productions of the 1950s, when French workshops rendered picturesque subjects in chased brass to animate interiors.
Condition report: Good overall condition. Brass with its gilded patina, old faux candles showing add to the charm of the whole. A pair full of wit for a corridor, a child's room or an interior of character.
