Transitional-style Furniture, Stamped "teune," 18th Century

Artist: François Gaspard Teune

18th-century sideboard – stamped by François-Gaspard Teuné

Elegant Transition-period sideboard, circa 1770–1775, marked F.G. TEUNÉ, for François-Gaspard Teuné, who was admitted as a master cabinetmaker in Paris in 1766.

Featuring a dynamic shape, it displays remarkable rosewood veneer, arranged in a curly and leaf pattern, embellished with light-wood fillets and floral motifs, particularly visible on the sides and front.

The front features an upper drawer and a door, the latter adorned with a rich strip marquetry panel and framed by fillets and stylized motifs.
The sides are also entirely inlaid, with a central “en réserve” design accented by delicate floral motifs.

The piece is topped by a veined gray marble slab, resting on a wooden molding.
It stands on four curved legs, finished with remarkable gilded bronze feet on its original casters.

The quality of the veneer, the richness of the decoration, and the construction are perfectly in keeping with Teuné’s work, whose furniture from the Transition and Louis XVI periods combines refined marquetry, elegant lines, and gilded bronze.

A beautiful collector’s piece, rare for its elegant composition and marquetry decoration, bearing the stamp of François-Gaspard Teuné.
This piece measures 50 cm in length, 40 cm in width, and 76.5 cm in height.
It is in very good condition.
