An elegant antique rattle-whistle made of vermeil silver and mother-of-pearl.
This piece is remarkable for the richness of its decoration and the finesse of its silversmithing.
The central body is entirely crafted using repoussé and chiseled with an abundant decoration of flowers, scrolls, foliage, and rocaille motifs, arranged around a central rosette.
It is adorned with several movable bells suspended from small rings.
The upper part ends with a whistle, while the lower part extends into an elegant handle made of turned mother-of-pearl.
This type of rattle was once a precious birth gift—both an object intended for the child and a true piece of fine metalwork—often preserved as a family heirloom and passed down from generation to generation.
The particularly opulent decoration on this piece reflects the historicist and Neo-Rocaille styles of the 19th century.
