Pair Of Small, Sculptural Swivel Chests Of Drawers. Spain, 1990s.
- Handcrafted furniture—limited production
Dimensions: 30 x 35 cm, H: 38 cm.
Handcrafted furniture created by a cabinetmaker in the 1990s, part of a limited series, based on a traditional rectilinear structure reinterpreted with a dynamic approach.
Each piece takes the form of a vertical, orthogonal volume, typical of a small, classic chest of drawers, but its originality lies in its pivoting drawers, which alter the visual perception of the piece as a whole.
A structure that is initially stable and orderly transforms into a variable composition, where movement creates a shifting architectural effect without straying from its conventional foundations. This system establishes a duality between structural order and compositional freedom, combining functionality, whimsy, and sculptural quality.
The clean-lined fronts feature recessed circular handles—a subtle detail that reinforces the design’s understated elegance while highlighting the structural interplay of the drawers.
In good overall condition, with a few small chips along the edges. A piece of veneer is missing from the corner of a lower drawer front (restored), and there are a few minor surface scratches. It functions well and is very sturdy; the drawer fronts are made of beech-veneered MDF, and the interior is solid wood.
