Stained-glass Windows At Saint Pierre, Circa 1500

Grisaille-painted stained glass, accented with silver yellow, lead-assembled, depicting Saint Peter seated, facing forward, in an architectural interior, wearing a loose-fitting cloak with sharply defined folds. He bears the traditional attributes that identify him: the large key, held vertically in his left hand, and the book of Scripture. His face, rendered in grisaille with fairly fine modeling, is surmounted by a circular halo and a large pontifical tiara/crown.

The architectural background is particularly distinctive: arcades, panels, cornices, and frames are highlighted with silver yellow, giving the entire composition its golden appearance. The decoration reflects the stylistic vocabulary of the early Renaissance, still strongly influenced by the Gothic tradition.

The painting of the face and drapery employs a fairly dense grisaille technique, with visible brushstrokes. The silver-yellow highlights the precious elements—clothing, architecture, and attributes—and lend great depth to the composition.
