Biography:
Édouard Jules Joseph Huberti (1818–1880), born in Brussels, was a Belgian painter of landscapes, flowers, and still lifes.
Initially a musician, he studied architecture at the Antwerp School of Fine Arts, then painting under Théodore Fourmois.
In 1868, he joined the Free Society of Fine Arts.
He then painted landscapes from life in Tervueren—the “Belgian Barbizon”—under the guidance of Hippolyte Boulenger. In 1874, he joined the Barbizon group in Île-de-France.
Through his contact with the Barbizon painters, he was strongly influenced by Corot and shared his taste for delicate harmonies. His paintings, with a color palette dominated by grays and soft greens, exude an intense poetry born of a highly developed sense of atmosphere.
