Portrait Of The Count Of Chambord

A rare and beautiful black-chalk portrait of the young Count of Chambord in exile, circa the 1830s

In August 1830, following the abdication of King Charles X, the royal family left France for the United Kingdom. The young Count of Chambord, aged 10, went into exile with his grandfather and his entire family to Holyrood Palace in Scotland. They remained there until October 1832, when they moved to the Royal Castle in Prague, Bohemia. Our portrait certainly dates from this period in Prague, when the young Count of Chambord was about fifteen years old.
Gilded wooden frame with beading, early 19th century.
