Large Art Deco Vase By Boch Frères Keramis – Charles Catteau – Design D.957

An important glazed earthenware baluster vase from the Boch Frères Keramis factory in La Louvière.
It features an elegant, stylized floral design in shades of cobalt blue, turquoise, green, and orange, set against a crackled white background. The motifs, outlined in blue, are characteristic of Charles Catteau’s Art Deco style.

Charles Catteau (1880–1966), a French ceramicist, joined Boch Frères Keramis in 1906 and headed the decoration workshop there. He contributed significantly to the manufacturer’s international success thanks to his modern, colorful, and stylized designs, which have become emblematic of Belgian Art Deco ceramics.

The vase bears, on the underside of the base, the Boch Frères Keramis manufacturer’s mark—“Made in Belgium”—the decoration reference D.957, the inscription “Ch. Catteau,” and the form number 934.
