Domenico Riccardo Peretti Griva – Two Pictorialist Photographs – Coassolo Torinese and “La Primavera”

A refined pair of photographic works by Domenico Riccardo Peretti Griva (Coassolo Torinese, November 28, 1882 – Turin, July 11, 1962), one of the leading figures of Italian and European pictorialist photography.

The first work depicts an evocative landscape of Coassolo Torinese and bears the handwritten title “Coassolo Torinese – La grande primavera,” along with the artist’s signature. The second, also signed, is titled “La Primavera.”

The works are particularly interesting for the quality of their pictorialist craftsmanship. Peretti Griva favored the bromide process and, above all, the bromide transfer: a complex technique in which the print is inked by hand and can subsequently be transferred to drawing paper using a press. The artist’s direct intervention allows for the modification of contrasts, blurring, and tonal values, creating a gradual dissolution of details and an almost painterly effect, straddling the line between photography, drawing, and engraving.

It is precisely this particular technique that gives Peretti Griva’s works the softness, atmospheric depth, and textural quality that make them immediately recognizable and of great artistic and collectible interest.

Dimensions: 40 × 35 cm each.

Note: The works are currently protected by glass; for this reason, the photographs in the listing may show reflections and may not fully convey the quality and details of the images.
