Gaston Le Beuze (active Circa 1940–1950) — *tout Va Bien Café*, 1946
A lively genre scene depicting a Parisian café terrace, filled with numerous costumed and masked figures, including a soldier in uniform, a bride, and characters in makeup reminiscent of a carnival parade in postwar Paris. A National Lottery poster dated August 8, 1946, allows us to pinpoint the scene’s exact setting.
Gaston Le Beuze, a member of the Society of French Artists, became known for his scenes of Parisian life during the Occupation and the Liberation, often depicted with an ironic eye; two of his works from this period are included in the collections of the Carnavalet Museum.
