The seal “Fides, Spes” was the Count of Chambord’s official personal motto. He had made these two theological virtues the cornerstone of his political and spiritual struggle for the restoration of the Legitimist monarchy in France. This cross, surrounded by the words Fides and Spes, appears exactly as shown on the famous silver medals and on the “Cross of the Partisans,” which the prince distributed to his followers in exile during their visits to Frohsdorf.
