French Antique Silver-gilt & Hand-painted Enamel Scent Bottle
Antique perfume/scent bottle of teardrop form, mounted in silver with fine hand-chased and engine-turned decoration throughout the mounts.
Design details:
- The body features a large reserve of white enamel hand-painted with a lush bouquet of roses, chrysanthemums, and small blue and yellow blossoms with green foliage — rendered in soft, romantic tones typical of 19th-century Continental enamel work.
- This central floral panel is bordered by a row of applied seed-pearl (imitation pearl) beads set in gilt collets, and flanked by vivid turquoise-blue enamel bands decorated with gilt fleur/feather motifs.
- The shoulders and neck are richly engraved with foliate scrollwork.
- A fluted, melon-form cap tops the bottle, opening on a spring hinge mechanism to reveal the stopper/applicator beneath — a functioning chatelaine-style scent flask.
- The reverse of the base bears an engraved oval cartouche with a floral spray motif.
- All metal surfaces show detailed hand-tooled engraving, including basket-weave and geometric border patterns along the edges.
