The connection between the Vaccaro family and the world of carts developed within the context of Catania’s artisan workshops. Often, academy painters or their students lent their geometric and figurative artistry to decorate the sides of the carts.Vizzini, the literary hometown of Giovanni Verga (where *Cavalleria Rusticana* is set, featuring the character Alfio, the cart driver), boasts a historic tradition of cart builders (the *carradori*). Among the most illustrious names working in Vizzini, the following are particularly noteworthy: Raffaele Vaccaro (master cartmaker).
