Charles Catteau – Art Deco Vase By Boch Frères Keramis – Design D.957 – Circa 1925
A very beautiful Art Deco vase made of fine glazed earthenware, produced by the Boch Frères Keramis factory in La Louvière, based on a design by Charles Catteau (1880–1966).
Ovoid in shape and slightly tapered at the neck, it features a remarkable polychrome stylized floral design, characteristic of Catteau’s work in the 1920s.
The floral compositions are rendered in a particularly luminous palette of cobalt blue, turquoise, green, and orange-brown, standing out against an ivory-white background of crackled enamel. They are framed by vertical bands accented with blue and turquoise stripes, giving the vase a beautiful, typically Art Deco graphic composition.
Beneath the base are the stamp of the Boch Frères – La Louvière factory, the design number D.957, and the signature Ch. Catteau.
This D.957 design is documented around 1925 in collections dedicated to Charles Catteau and the production of Boch Frères Keramis.
