Large Monstrance In The Shape Of A Radiant Sun. Silver And Vermeil. France, Mid-19th Century.
A large monstrance shaped like a radiant sun at the top. In the center is the compartment designed to hold the lunule. The front features a glass panel surrounded by colored glass beads, set in the center of clouds from which winged cherubs emerge. On the back is a hinged opening. The entire piece is topped by a cross, also adorned with colored glass beads.
The rectangular base and the shaft are entirely crafted using the repoussé technique and decorated with interlacing patterns, cherubs, plant motifs (wheat, grapes, various fruits…), and religious symbols (Agnus Dei, Holy Spirit…). Silver and vermeil, hallmarked with the Minerva mark at the 1st fineness (925 thousandths). France, mid-19th century.
It comes with its original case, which shows signs of wear visible in the photos, and two clasps that need repair.
