louis XIV-style Desk-chest, Designed By Maison Jansen
Artist: Dans Le Goût De La Maison Jansen
A rare chest of drawers that converts into a writing desk, dating from the mid-20th century and crafted in the purest Louis XIV style. A stately piece of furniture of superb craftsmanship, reminiscent of the works of the greatest Parisian interior design houses, such as Jansen.
This chest stands out for its marquetry, which alternates vibrant, iridescent amber burl with wide bands of light wood accented by dark stripes and thin bone inlays, creating a geometric contrast on all sides. The front features a faux six-drawer configuration and opens to reveal three drawers mounted on oak and a door that reveals a walnut interior.
Each drawer is adorned with gilded and chiseled bronze ornamentation: pull handles shaped like neoclassical drapery and lock plates featuring satyr masks or foliage motifs, emblematic of the Louis XIV style.Functionality: The top panel is hinged and folds down to reveal a beautiful work surface covered in black leather adorned with a gilded vignette featuring small ironwork details.
A Parisian piece from the Faubourg St. Antoine, in the style of the Jansen firm.
In very good condition, with a few minor scratches from normal use on the top
