Christofle Art Deco Smoking Set: Normandie Ocean Liner, Luc Lanel, French Lines Transatlantic
Rare Art Deco-era silver-plated metal table set and smoking set from CHRISTOFLE.
Created for the first-class salons of the legendary ocean liner NORMANDIE
of the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique (CGT) in 1935.
This set, featuring a modernist and minimalist aesthetic, was designed by the renowned designer Luc Lanel.
It consists of two matching pieces featuring the engraved “Étoiles” motif:
A tabletop cigarette holder (cup).
Height 4 cm and diameter 3.5 cm.
A case / holder for a table-top matchbox.
Approximately 5 cm long by 4 cm wide.
The underside of each piece bears a double signature of great clarity:
The official silversmith’s hallmark of the House of CHRISTOFLE (square hallmark of guarantee and master’s mark).
The prestigious official cursive engraving of the shipping company:
“Cie Gle Transatlantique / French Line.”
The geometric design featuring small stars and these specific engravings attest to the piece’s direct provenance from the first-class cabins or the onboard boutique of the NORMANDIE.
Collectible pieces particularly sought after by enthusiasts of Art Deco silverware and the golden age of the great transatlantic liners.
In excellent condition.
The silver plating is very shiny and the engraving perfectly legible.
A few signs of wear and use are present, visible in the detailed photographs.
