In 1919, he lived in a studio in Hollywood, where he painted portraits of actress Mary Pickford and actor Douglas Fairbanks Sr. The plaster bust of Mary Pickford is now in the museum in Verbania (Italy). Our painting was given to Moïse Levy de Benzion (1878–1943) in 1921 (as evidenced by the dedication). The catalog for the 1947 auction of the Levy de Benzion villa in Cairo shows that he owned several sculptures by Troubetskoy in addition to our painting. Troubetskoy also created a bust of Paule Dinah Levy de Benzion, the wife of Moïse Levy de Benzion, in 1922.
