A beautiful patinated terracotta animal group depicting a lioness alongside her prey, a gazelle.

This expressive composition realistically captures the power of the feline: taut musculature, powerfully sculpted legs, and a gaze fixed on her prey. The beautiful warm-brown patina perfectly highlights the details of the sculpture.

The piece rests on a rectangular terracotta base, set upon a veined marble pedestal.

Work signed “Léo Amaury”in intaglio on the base. Léo Amaury, born in 1885, is known for his animal sculptures, created primarily in bronze and terracotta.

A French work from the first half of the 20th century, circa 1930, from the Art Deco period.

In good overall condition. A few slight marks and irregularities consistent with the piece’s age.
