Porcelaine De Paris Potpourri, 19th Century
Potpourri jar or covered perfume burner made of porcelain in the Sèvres, Porcelaine de Paris, or Manufacture Samson style. The lid is topped with a fretel and pierced with circular openings designed to allow the aromas of the dried flowers or essences placed inside to diffuse. The cylindrical vase rests on four lion’s-paw feet, attached to a square base embellished with gold fillets. The side handles are gilded mascarons featuring lion heads in high relief. The background is a vibrant sky blue, adorned with foliage, floral garlands, and geometric friezes in gold. The main panel features a multilobed medallion on a white background depicting a finely detailed polychrome butterfly in azure blue, pink, and turquoise green, surrounded by stems and leafy scrolls.
