A very moving portrait miniature of a mother and her child in loving embrace, by Jean Georget, executed probably around 1810. Georget was born in Paris in 1763 and trained under Jacques-Louis David. He was a prominent French Neoclassical painter, celebrated as one of the finest portrait miniaturists and porcelain painters of the Napoleonic Era and the Bourbon Restoration. Georget initially specialised in miniatures, exhibiting his works at the prestigious Paris Salon from 1796 onwards. As his career progressed, Georget shifted focus toward porcelain painting.
