Ferdinand Daems 1809-1875Ferdinand Daems, a Belgian artist, was born on September 20, 1809, in Brussels and passed away on July 5, 1875. He was known for his historical paintings, religious subjects, and genre scenes. Daems was educated under the neo-classical painters Jacques-Louis David and François-Joseph Navez at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. He won the first prize in the living model class at the Academy for the 1832-1833 competition and exhibited his work at the Antwerp Salon for the first time in 1834. He continued to exhibit his work at the Brussels triennial salons until 1874. His notable work "A Philosopher Mending" was exhibited at the Brussels Historical Art Exhibition in 1880
