A 3-piece Bacchus Set, "biscuit" Glaze, Sèvres, 19th Century

Large table centerpiece known as "Bacchus"
Made of biscuit porcelain, comprising:
-The central group known as the Triumph of Bacchus
A side group known as the Nymph with a Tambourine
A side group known as the Nymph with Cymbals

This rather rare set was commissioned in 1772 by the Menus Plaisirs of Louis XV  to the Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory
The designs are by Jean-Hugues Taraval
The sculpture is by Louis-Simon Boizot

It appears that only the central group was completed and delivered to King Louis XV, who died in May 1774
The two side groups were later delivered to the young King Louis XVI
The commission seems to have been intended for the dining room of the Petit Trianon at Versailles
A complete example can be seen at the Musée de la Marine in Paris
Our large overcoat features a mark of interlocking L’s and another unidentified mark
In good overall condition
Restoration to the drumand on a nymph’s head
