Louis XVI-era Console Table In Gilded Wood, Crafted In Paris XVIII° Century

A superb and rare half-moon console table with Louis XVI-era legs in carved and gilded oak. Topped with a thick (4 cm) Carrara marble top featuring a stepped edge and cavetto molding, its tall crossbars are carved with an interlaced design framing daisies above a row of pearls and an opulent garland of oak leaves with a central crown. It rests on tapered front legs with fluted shafts featuring asparagus-tip finials and on rare rear legs featuring trompe l’œil reed motifs characteristic of the naturalist movement so dear to Queen Marie Antoinette in the last quarter of the 18th century. The four legs are joined by a delicately carved crossbar and topped by a basket filled with a generous bouquet of flowers.
This console table, of exceptional craftsmanship, is typical of the work produced by the most prestigious Parisian workshops of the late 18th century.
Good condition, with a warm patina on the gilding (some signs of wear and touch-ups visible in the photos)
