Bouquet of white and pink roses in a brass vase; oil on panel, signed lower right; the frame shows traces of gilding with bronze paste and some wear. Pierre François Edmond Van Coppenolle was a Belgian painter born in Ghent. He began his career as a landscape painter and quickly became famous for his elegant and harmonious compositions, in which he demonstrated his mastery of light and color. He participated in the 1900 Paris World’s Fair, where he won a gold medal. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français and the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts.
