Paul LICOURT (1846–1937)
From 1882 to 1914, he exhibited at several art salons in France: Carcassonne, Epinal, Mulhouse, Remiremont, and Paris (Artistes Français), showcasing landscapes of Lorraine where water is a frequent feature.
A landscape painter, he was born in Sivry-sur-Meuse (55) in 1846. His teachers included Harpignies, Yon, and Edmond Petitjean. He exhibited landscapes at the Nancy Salon between 1880 (“The Path to the Mill at Consenvoye,” purchased by the SLAA) and at least 1924: “Les Mortes de Tonnoy-sur-Moselle” (1882) – “Une mare” (1884) – “Les Près mûrs,” “Dombasle temps couvert,” “Dans la Prairie à Essey,” “Environs de Nancy” (1886) – “Paysage meusien,” “The Meuse at Charleville in 1907,” etc.
It is known that Émile FRIANT painted his portrait, which was exhibited at the 1883 Paris Salon.
At the 1914 Paris Salon des Artistes Français, he exhibited an oil on canvas titled “On the Meuse.”
In 1920, he was living in Paris. He exhibited at the Remiremont Salon, notably with a “View of Pierre-la-Treiche” and “The Meuse River.”
The artist was particularly fond of riverbanks (the Meurthe, Moselle, and Meuse).
He died in Verdun in September 1937.

Painting in fair condition; very beautiful 19th-century frame in wood and gilded stucco, requiring restoration on one side.
