The Orly collection, with its clean, minimalist lines, was created by Italian designer Lino Sabattini to mark the opening of Orly Airport in 1961.

Markings and hallmarks:

• On the forks and spoons: “Christofle France” stamp accompanied by the manufacturer’s hallmark (a chess knight surrounded by the initials OC) and the silversmith’s hallmark (a balance scale with a bee between the pans, surmounted by four stars, two branches below, and the letters OC).

• On the knives: “Christofle” signature on the blade; “Christofle France” hallmark and manufacturer’s hallmarks on the handle

Lino Sabattini (1925–2016) was an Italian silversmith and designer. Self-taught, he learned metallurgy while working in a copper factory. He settled in Milan in 1955, where he established his own workshop; there he met Gio Ponti, who helped bring him international recognition by exhibiting his creations in Paris, among other places. Thanks to this growing reputation, he served as design director for Christofle from 1956 to 1963. For the renowned silverware house, he created everyday objects with a minimalist aesthetic. In 1964, he founded his own workshop, Argenteria Sabattini, in Bregnano (Lombardy). Today, his works are on display in prestigious institutions such as the MoMA in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
