Bronze And Carrara Marble Bust Of Napoleon, A Souvenir From The Grand Tour In The Late 19th Century

This is a bronze bust of Napoleon mounted on a Carrara marble base, an object likely brought back by a traveler on the Grand Tour of Italy and cast in the workshops of Naples based on the famous bronze by the sculptor (Renzo Colombo), who depicted the Emperor with a stern expression, wrapped in his large coat, in 1812.
Note the inscription “Napoleon” in Italian.
For the record, “The Grand Tour” referred to wealthy young travelers (young aristocrats or members of the upper middle class) who broadened their cultural horizons by visiting sites, museums, and exhibitions during their travels, which took them primarily to Italy, Greece, and other European countries.
