17th-century Bolognese School: *the Penitent Magdalene*, Oil On Copper

An oval-framed painting on copper depicting the Penitent Mary Magdalene in a landscape with cherubs holding a cross.
Attributable to the classical style of the Bolognese school, and in particular to Guido Reni, it can be dated to the late 17th century or, at the latest, the early 18th century, due to the soft drapery and classical color palette typical of artists such as Marcantonio Franceschini and his circle.
The oval format and color scheme can be traced back to works intended for private devotion between the late 17th and early 18th centuries.

Gilded wood and stucco frame from the early 19th century
Overall dimensions: 34 x 28 x 4 cm
The painting is in excellent condition and has been cleaned.
The surface of the copper plate has some imperfections, visible in the photos
