Statue Of A Female Dancer In The Classical Style, Sculpted By Michel Caryl, Provence

This antique-style sculpture, made of clay or plaster, is from the Michel Caryl Studio; it is purely decorative. It is a beautifully crafted neoclassical piece.
A female figure wearing a chiton cinched beneath the bust, revealing her right breast.

The position of her feet, the twist of her upper body, and the garment that reveals her anatomy suggest that this figure represents a dancing Maenad.
The statuette is inspired by a famous bronze work by Lysippos, created around 320 B.C., depicting the poetess Prassilla of Sicyon dancing and playing the flute to accompany her Bacchic songs.
This may be the same statue described by Pliny in *Natural History*, Book XXXIV, under the name “temulenta tibicina,” the drunken aulos player.

We note some wear and cracks; however, the piece remains in very good overall condition.

Our numerous photos allow you to appreciate the quality of the object.
Regarding the condition, please examine the photos closely.
