A spectacular patinated bronze animal sculpture by Genryūsai Seiya, depicting two tigers locked in a struggle of exceptional intensity. Designed to appeal to international tastes at the end of the 19th century, this dynamic composition conveys a powerful sense of drama, reminiscent of great Western animal sculpture, while retaining the technical virtuosity characteristic of Japanese bronze casters of the Meiji era.

The spiraling construction of the bodies, the precise anatomical modeling, and the subtle interplay of varied patinas accentuating the texture of the fur all attest to remarkable mastery. The striking expressions on the heads—with open jaws and intense gazes—reflect a thorough naturalistic observation, characteristic of Seiya’s works intended for major international exhibitions.
