Hanging chandelier consisting of a gilded brass metal frame and garlands of cut glass. The main body is circular in shape, supported by an upper ring from which chains—also made of brass—hang down, connecting to a lower ring of larger diameter. From this ring extend curved arms at equal intervals, ending in cylindrical candleholders fitted with saucers. The lower perimeter is embellished with concentric rows of prisms and faceted teardrops in clear crystal, suspended by metal rings, thus forming a continuous peripheral skirt. The upper section culminates in an openwork structure shaped like a stylized floral wreath, also adorned with prismatic pendants. The proportions are balanced, with a clear vertical hierarchy between the supporting body and the upper crown, as well as a symmetrical arrangement of the lighting and decorative elements.

This type of chandelier was intended for the reception areas of aristocratic and bourgeois residences, as well as for reception rooms and main dining rooms, where it served both a lighting and a decorative function. The combination of gilded brass and cut crystal is part of a Nordic tradition that reinterpreted 18th-century French designs according to Swedish taste. The craftsmanship is meticulous, evident in the quality of the gilding, the uniformity of the arms, and the consistency in the size of the prisms. Its Swedish provenance and dating to the mid-19th century place it within the context of the consolidation of the late Gustavian style; pieces of this size with a complete structure are relatively rare on the market, particularly when they retain all of their original prismatic elements.

This piece belongs to the so-called “Gustavian” style, a Swedish movement that developed in the late 18th century during the reign of Gustav III and continued throughout the 19th century. This style is characterized by formal simplicity, strict symmetry, and the adoption of neoclassical motifs reinterpreted with Nordic restraint. The ring-shaped structure, the curved arms with their understated profile, and the upper crown in the shape of a plant wreath are inspired by French neoclassical models, while the visual lightness achieved through the transparency of the glass and the rhythmic modulation of the prisms reflects a Scandinavian sensibility that prioritizes compositional clarity and proportional balance.
