This beautiful plaque is directly inspired by a German engraving depicting the Crucifixion, created at the very end of the 16th century by Aegidius Sadeler II based on a composition by the German Mannerist painter Hans von Aachen. This plaque is quite rare and, to the best of our knowledge, is not listed in any of the major known museum collections. However, a gilded bronze example was sold at Christie’s in 2007; see here: https://www.christies.com/en/lot/lot-5027149
