The Queen Elizabeth II Flower Market is one of the most picturesque markets in Paris. It is located on Place Louis-Lépine, on the Île de la Cité, between Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Sainte-Chapelle. It has been in operation since the early 19th century and is housed in charming Belle Époque-style metal pavilions.
Georges STEIN (pseudonym of Séverin Louis Stein), 1864–1917 (French, of Luxembourgish origin)
An urban landscape painter, watercolorist, draftsman, and illustrator, he is best known and recognized for his works depicting Paris and its streets, boulevards, and squares during the Belle Époque. He was a student of Jules Lefebvre and Gustave Boulanger. Influenced by Jean Béraud, he focused in particular on the rendering of light to capture the hustle and bustle of Parisian life: his works are imbued with spontaneity, dynamism, and movement, giving viewers the sensation of participating in the scenes depicted and the activities enjoyed by the urban public of the Belle Époque. He also painted views of London, Melun, Vichy, and—in Switzerland, where he spent his final years—Geneva, Lausanne, and Bern. He was a member of the Société des artistes français and exhibited at the Salon from 1912 to 1914. He also created large decorative panels, notably a series of works adorning the casino in the city of Vichy.
