Art Deco Mirror In Hammered Wrought Iron – France, Circa 1925–1930

Art Deco mirror in hammered wrought iron – France, circa 1925–1930

Elegant round mirror in hammered wrought iron, crafted during the heyday of Art Deco, circa 1925–1930. With a design of remarkable simplicity, it perfectly illustrates the evolution of French metalwork during the interwar period, when the quality of the metalwork took precedence over excessive ornamentation.

Its circular, hand-hammered frame is extended on either side by two elegant volutes that lighten the composition and give it an instantly recognizable silhouette. This pursuit of pure, balanced lines evokes the work of the great French metalworkers such as Edgar Brandt, Raymond Subes, and Poillerat, who elevated wrought iron to a noble material in Art Deco architecture and decoration. While it cannot be attributed to any of these masters, this mirror unquestionably belongs to the refined aesthetic that brought fame to French metalwork following the 1925 International Exhibition of Decorative Arts.

The regular hammered pattern of the frame delicately captures the light and gives the metal a vibrant texture, while the two side volutes add a touch of movement without disrupting the overall balance. This combination of geometric precision and finesse of craftsmanship is characteristic of the finest works of that era.

The mirror is entirely original, complete with its antique glass and backing, attesting to its authenticity. It is in excellent condition. Only the mounting system on the back is missing, a detail that can easily be replaced.

With a diameter of 45 cm, this mirror will naturally find its place in an entryway, living room, bedroom, or above a console table, where it will add an elegant and timeless touch.
