Louis XV-style Sofa In Crimson Patterned Velvet — Late 19th / Early 20th Century
A beautiful Louis XV-style sofa with a scalloped “camel-back” backrest (featuring several curves) and armrests rolled into large scrolls, resting at the front on three carved legs adorned with stylized acanthus motifs and the base of a fluted spindle. The generous and well-executed carving, along with the scalloped structure of the apron, attest to meticulous craftsmanship, characteristic of the “Louis XV” style as reinterpreted in France between the late 19th century and the early decades of the 20th.
The sofa has been reupholstered in a beautiful textured velvet with a satin backing, featuring a tone-on-tone cream and crimson floral damask pattern, enhanced with braids and twisted trimmings along all structural seams. The upholstery, carefully restored, is in very good condition.
A beautiful, generously sized four-seater sofa that is comfortable and can fit just as well into a classic interior as it can into a more eclectic setting that blends antique and contemporary styles.
