Louis XVI Side Table Stamped "durand," 19th Century
A superb Louis XVI pedestal table in mottled mahogany, framed by a gilded bronze railing and topped with Turquin blue marble. It features a deep drawer running around the base.
The legs, adorned with chiseled and gilded bronze, are joined by a Turquin blue marble crossbar and fitted with bronze casters.
The oak frame bears, beneath the tabletop, the mark of G. DURAND, a cabinetmaker born in 1839 who trained under Beurdeley and Dasson.
Gervais DURAND settled in Paris, first on Rue de la Cerisaie, then on Rue Beautreillis, and finally in the Hôtel de Sully.
He designed and crafted his own furniture. In 1889, he participated in the World’s Fair and was awarded a silver medal.
