Two Bronze Statuettes By Francisque J. Duret And édouard Quesnel, 19th Century
A pair of bronze statuettes with a brown patina depicting *The Young Fisherman Dancing the Tarantella* and *The Neapolitan Dancer with a Tambourine*, two iconic works by Francisque Joseph Duret (1804–1865).
The first piece is signed “Duret F.,” while the second bears the signature of Édouard Quesnel (1842–1891). This set is listed in auction catalogs dedicated to 19th-century French sculpture.
The quality of the casting and chiseling is remarkable, with exquisite rendering of the figures’ anatomy, drapery, and bases richly decorated with seashells. Both sculptures retain their beautiful original antique patina.
Dimensions: height 43 cm and 44 cm; base diameter: 14 cm.
In good overall condition. Note a slight misalignment at the level of one arm, with a discreetly visible joint line.
