Fine Earthenware Coffee Set With "hunting" Design Fenal Frères, Pexonne Circa 1880, 19th-century Hunting Motif
Antique fine earthenware coffee set produced by the Fenal Frères factory in Pexonne, Lorraine, around 1880.
The design is printed in deep blue and titled “Chasse” (Hunt), depicting a rich hunting scene: deer, hunting dogs, wild ducks, pheasants, hares, and forest landscapes.
Each piece features a different scene in the grand tradition of 19th-century printed earthenware.
The form is particularly refined, with handles and spouts modeled after bamboo stalks—a detail highly prized in late 19th-century production.
The lids are topped with openwork knobs in the same naturalistic style.
The set includes a coffee pot, a teapot, a milk jug, and a set of cups and saucers.
The mark stamped on the underside of the pieces, “CHASSE – F.F. – PEXONNE,” identifies the Fenal Frères factory, a major Lorraine earthenware manufacturer that experienced considerable growth in the second half of the 19th century. Building on a ceramic tradition dating back to the 18th century, the company distinguished itself with its fine earthenware featuring printed designs inspired by English productions, intended for a bourgeois clientele seeking elegant and easy-to-maintain tableware sets.
The set is in excellent condition. Please note that one fretel has been restored.
