Biography:
Jean Pierre LAGRUE 1939 / 2018
Jean-Pierre Lagrue was born on Montmartre Hill near the Sacré-Cœur Basilica on August 14, 1939. He died in Blois on July 10, 2018.
A professional dancer, his performance of the pas de deux from *Giselle* earned him the top prize on the French stage, which he received from Serge Lifar.
He danced with the companies of the Marquis de Cuevas, Ludmilla Tchérina, Roland Petit, and Jeanine Charrat.
He performed pas de deux with the great stars of the era: Janine Charat, Roland Petit, Zizi Jeanmaire, Lisette d’Arsonval, Ludmilla Tcherina, Josephine Baker, not to mention television appearances with Mireille, Jean-Christophe Averty, Patachou, and Sheila.
Jean-Pierre LAGRUE’s encounter with the works of Modigliani and Van Gogh sparked his second passion: painting.
He enrolled in the École des Beaux-Arts, where he studied painting under Legueult and sculpture under Yencesse.
Painter of diverse subjects, watercolorist. Naïve style.
He enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he received guidance from the painter Raymond Legeult and the sculptor Yencesse.
He participated in group exhibitions, notably in Paris at the Salon des Indépendants—of which he became a member in 1984—and at the Salon d’Automne. He held his first solo exhibition of his paintings in Paris in 1973; he also exhibited in Paris in 1980 at Ror Vomar and in 1984 at the Laurens Gallery. Although he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and later worked in a restoration studio, his technique has retained a naive charm. Influenced by a difficult childhood, he depicts the harsh reality of daily life for ordinary people. He also offers humorous interpretations of famous works by Goya, Manet, and the Fontainebleau School.
Jean Guelis cast him in television shows with J-C Averty.
Arthur Plaschaert cast him in his ballets.
He danced in Monte Carlo alongside Josephine Baker.
He accompanied Annie Cordy during her singing performances.
He became a principal dancer at the Toulon Opera.
His passion for painting took on increasing importance in his life, which he long divided between Paris and Touraine.
