A Gory, "dancer With A Bronze Ball," Art Deco, 20th Century
Artist: Affortunato Gory Actif 1895-1925
A beautiful dancer in patinated bronze on a marble base: in a graceful pose, she pretends to pass her ball from one hand to the other behind her back
This sculpture is also remarkable for the quality of its casting and patina.
The artist’s signature, “A Gory,” is engraved on the base.
Affortunato Gory was an Italian sculptor from Florence, active from 1895 to 1925. He studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of Auguste Rivalta.
Like many Italian artists, Gory moved to Paris in the early 20th century and changed his name to give it a more French sound; he would, in fact, use numerous variations of it to sign his sculptures.
He began exhibiting at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1902 through 1923.
