Flat-topped Desk Based On A Design By Charles Cressent; 19th Century
19th century
Elegant Louis XV-style flat-topped desk in precious wood veneer, featuring three drawers on the front. It rests on four curved legs, richly adorned with chiseled and gilded bronze fittings featuring mascarons, foliage motifs, ornate handles, and finely crafted feet.
The top, framed by a gilded bronze border, is adorned with remarkable marquetry featuring fleur-de-lis motifs, executed with finesse, and centered around a multi-lobed medallion, lending the piece a particularly refined and prestigious character.
This 19th-century piece draws inspiration from the designs of Charles Cressent (1685–1768), echoing the elegance of his lines, the quality of his bronze work, and the richness of his decoration. It perfectly illustrates the revival of French Louis XV-style furniture in the 19th century.
A piece of great distinction, combining quality craftsmanship, elegance, and strong decorative appeal, suitable for both a classical interior and a collection of antique furniture.
