This is an Art Nouveau-style display bookcase,circa 1900–1910. The “whip-like” lines typical of this period are immediately recognizable: organic curves, botanical inspiration, and a rejection of classical symmetry.

Materials and Structure

  • Wood species: Walnut with a beautiful original honey-colored patina.
  • Front: A glass door covering 2/3 of the height, revealing 2 interior wooden shelves. The glass is framed by a carved wooden decorationdepicting stems and interlacing plant motifs, a hallmark of Art Nouveau.
  • Lower section: Solid, with molded panels featuring a semicircular motif.
  • Pediment: Intricately crafted from scroll-cut wood with a large, sinuous, asymmetrical line. Two small cross motifs adorn the upper corners.
  • Base: Rests on 4 small
