Imposing Minton Earthenware Planters / Planters – Late 19th Century
An exceptional glazed earthenware planter or flowerpot crafted by the prestigious English manufacturer Minton, dating from the late 19th century.
This significant piece features an architecturally inspired form with rich ornamentation. The body, coated in a deep cobalt blue glaze, is accented by elegant green and ochre borders. It rests on six lion’s-paw feet and is adorned with six impressive lion heads in high relief holding rings in their mouths, an emblematic motif of the manufacturer’s Neo-Renaissance and Neoclassical decorative repertoire.
The quality of the earthenware, the finesse of the modeling, and the vibrancy of the glazes attest to the exceptional craftsmanship of Minton, one of the most prestigious British manufacturers of the Victorian period. With its imposing dimensions and spectacular decoration, this planter is a prestigious piece that will fit equally well in a classic or contemporary interior.
In very good overall condition, with a beautiful sheen to the glazes. The only imperfections are slight signs of wear consistent with its age, and a broken foot that has been reattached (see photos).
